Falls

slip and fall accident on wet floor
Unexpected situations may result in a fall. Do you know steps to protect yourself and others from further falls?

Hopefully, a lawsuit will not ensue when a  fall occurred on someone else's property.

Steps after a fall occurred:
  • assess patient
  • can they communicate?
  • ask patient for a statement
  • how did the fall occur
  • any intervention needed
  • evaluate patient
  • patient history
  • document incidence
Conditions deemed contributory to a slip and fall accident include:
  • torn carpeting
  • a wet floor that isn't properly marked
  • poor lighting
  • stairs without a hand railing
  • a handicapped-accessible walkway with inadequate handrails
  • even a 3" drop in an elevator

    1. Thanks for checking into my blog. I believe fall prevention techniques are important for all healthcare workers. Orientation sessions should discuss fall prevention at the beginning of employment.
